Hi everyone, it’s Trip with Kim!
If you’re planning a trip to Hong Kong or Macau, I highly recommend visiting both cities. They’re so close that you can easily enjoy a day trip between the two. The best way to travel? By ferry!
In this guide, I’ll share everything you need to know about booking the Cotai Jet Ferry, what to expect during the journey, and my personal tips for a smooth trip.
1. How to Book the Cotai Jet Ferry for Your Hong Kong to Macau Trip
The easiest way to book your ferry tickets is through Klook. Here’s why:
- Convenience: Skip the long lines at the terminal.
- Availability: Secure your preferred departure time in advance.
- Price: Tickets are usually priced around HKD 240 (approximately $30 USD) for a one-way trip.
Choosing Your Destination in Macau
Macau has two ferry terminals:
- Macau Ferry Terminal: Located in the Macau Peninsula, close to historic attractions.
- Taipa Ferry Terminal: Closer to Cotai Strip hotels like the Venetian and Wynn Palace.
If you’re staying or exploring the Cotai Strip, make sure to book the Cotai Jet Ferry, which only operates to and from the Taipa Terminal.
2. My Experience Traveling on the Cotai Jet Ferry
From Hong Kong to Macau
I stayed in the Sheung Wan area of Hong Kong, which made reaching the ferry terminal super easy—just a short walk from my accommodation.
At the Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal (3rd floor), you’ll find ticket counters for various ferry companies. Since I pre-booked my Cotai Jet tickets, I bypassed the long queues and headed straight to the counter to collect my boarding pass.
Boarding the Ferry
- Arrival Time: Arrive at least 30 minutes before departure.
- Ticket Collection: Show your e-ticket QR code to receive a printed ticket. Your seat number will be assigned before boarding.
The Ferry Journey
The ferry ride takes about 1 hour and offers comfortable seating with plenty of legroom. If you’re carrying luggage, there’s a designated storage area at the back of the ferry.
- Tip: For the best views, sit on the left side when traveling from Hong Kong to Macau.
Arriving in Macau
After disembarking, you’ll go through immigration. Keep your arrival card with you until you leave Macau. Once through, take advantage of the free shuttle buses provided by major hotels—there’s no need to spend extra on a taxi!
3. Comparing Hong Kong and Macau
Hong Kong: A City of Skyscrapers
Hong Kong is all about modern urban vibes, with its iconic skyline, bustling streets, and vibrant night markets. It’s perfect for those who love cityscapes and lively atmospheres.
Macau: A Touch of Vegas in Asia
In contrast, Macau feels like a mix of Las Vegas and old-world Europe. The city is famous for its extravagant casino hotels and Portuguese colonial architecture. Don’t miss the luxurious Wynn Palace and its stunning fountain show!
Both cities offer unique experiences, making it worthwhile to visit both on a single trip.
4. Tips for Your Hong Kong to Macau Ferry Journey

- Choose the Right Terminal: Know your destination in Macau (Peninsula or Cotai Strip) before booking.
