Hi everyone, it’s Trip with Kim!
Tokyo DisneySea is one of the most unique Disney parks in the world and a must-visit destination for Disney fans. However, if you’re planning a visit, you need to be strategic to avoid long lines and make the most of your day.
In this guide, I’ll cover:
✅ How to reserve Disney Premier Access (DPA), Standby Pass, and 40th Anniversary Pass
✅ The best strategy for riding top attractions at DisneySea
✅ Why early entry (open run) is essential for an amazing experience
Let’s dive into the details and make your DisneySea trip unforgettable!
1. Understanding Tokyo DisneySea & Ticketing System
📍 Location: 1-13 Maihama, Urayasu, Chiba, Japan
🎟 Entrance Ticket Price: ¥8,900 – ¥10,900 (varies by date)
📱 Reservations Required: DPA (Disney Premier Access), Standby Pass (SP), 40th Anniversary Pass
Tokyo Disney Resort: Two Different Parks
Did you know that Tokyo Disney Resort has two separate parks?
✔ Tokyo Disneyland – Classic Disney park with Cinderella’s Castle
✔ Tokyo DisneySea – More thrilling attractions and exclusive to Japan
Unlike Disneyland Paris, where you can visit both parks in one day, Tokyo DisneySea is huge and requires a full day. If you try to visit both Disneyland and DisneySea in one day, you’ll only have time for 2-3 rides per park, so I recommend choosing just one park per day.
🔹 Pro Tip: Tokyo DisneySea is more suited for adults and thrill-seekers, while Tokyo Disneyland is better for families with young kids.
2. Tokyo DisneySea Ticket Types: Disney Premier Access (DPA), Standby Pass (SP), and 40th Anniversary Pass
Tokyo DisneySea uses three types of ride reservation systems that you must understand before your trip.
| Ticket Type | Purpose | Price | How to Get It |
|---|
| DPA (Disney Premier Access) | Skip the line for popular rides or shows | ¥1,500 – ¥2,500 per ride | Purchase via Tokyo Disney Resort App after entering the park |
| 40th Anniversary Pass | Free FastPass for select rides | Free | Limited availability; book on the app after entering the park |
| Standby Pass (SP) | Required to enter Fantasy Springs area | Free | Must book via the app; limited availability |
How to Reserve These Passes
- 🎟 DPA, 40th Anniversary Pass, and SP are ONLY available inside the park. You cannot book them before entering.
- 🕒 Reservations open as soon as you scan your ticket at the entrance gate.
- ⏳ Popular DPAs sell out within 10 minutes after park opening.
🚀 Why Early Entry (Open Run) is Essential
To get the best passes, you must enter as early as possible. I arrived at 9:10 AM and was only able to book:
✔ One 40th Anniversary Pass (afternoon ride)
✔ One Standby Pass (SP) for Peter Pan at 7:30 PM
Had I arrived earlier, I could have secured more ride reservations.
3. How to Ride Popular Attractions at Tokyo DisneySea
DPA & Ride Pricing Guide
| Ride / Show | DPA Price |
|---|
| Believe! Sea of Dreams Parade | ¥2,500 |
| Frozen, Tangled, Peter Pan, Soaring, Toy Story | ¥2,000 |
| Tower of Terror, Journey to the Center of the Earth | ¥1,500 |
Best Rides to Prioritize with DPA & SP
✔ DPA Priority: Soaring, Tower of Terror, Toy Story Mania
✔ SP Priority: Frozen, Tangled, Peter Pan (required for entry to Fantasy Springs)
✔ 40th Anniversary Pass Priority: Indiana Jones, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
If you’re visiting DisneySea for the first time, I highly recommend purchasing a DPA for Soaring and using the SP for Frozen or another Fantasy Springs ride.
4. My Experience at Tokyo DisneySea
Entering the Park & Booking Passes
As soon as I entered, I noticed everyone stopped walking and stared at their phones. This is because they were all booking DPAs and SPs as fast as possible.
I quickly secured a 40th Anniversary Pass and an SP for Peter Pan, but DPA for top rides was already sold outwithin minutes.
🔹 Pro Tip: If you don’t use DPA, be prepared for 2+ hour wait times for popular rides.
Wait Times for Popular Rides
⏳ Toy Story Mania: 140 minutes
⏳ Soaring: 150 minutes
⏳ Peter Pan’s Neverland Adventure: 120 minutes
Even on a weekday, the lines were incredibly long. This is why having DPA and SP reservations is crucial.
Themed Food & Snacks
Tokyo DisneySea is famous for its unique themed food, including:
🍿 Flavored Popcorn: Each park zone has different flavors! I tried Indian Curry Popcorn near the Aladdin area.
🥤 Character-Themed Drinks: Special drinks inspired by Disney movies.
🍰 Limited-Edition Desserts: Seasonal and event-themed sweets available at select cafés.
5. Nighttime Entertainment & Fireworks at Tokyo DisneySea
One of the most unique features of Tokyo DisneySea is that parades take place on water. The evening show, Believe! Sea of Dreams, is a must-see!
✔ Best Viewing Spots: Purchase DPA tickets or arrive 1 hour early to get a good spot.
I stayed until park closing to watch the final fireworks display and explore the stunning Fantasy Springs area at night. It was a perfect way to end the day!
6. Kim’s Final Tips
✔ You MUST have DPA or Standby Pass to enter Fantasy Springs.
✔ Arrive at least 1 hour before park opening for the best reservations.
✔ Use the 40th Anniversary Pass for Indiana Jones or 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
✔ Don’t expect to ride everything in one day—prioritize your top attractions!
Tokyo DisneySea is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but planning ahead is essential to make the most of your visit. With the right DPA, Standby Pass, and ride strategy, you’ll enjoy an unforgettable Disney adventure!
